Painted Easter craft eggs

This is a fun activity to do if you have a few extra eggs in your fridge. Just be careful, though. If you plan on eating them afterward, use food-safe dyes/food colouring.

Firstly start by boiling your eggs for 10-12 minutes so that they are hard boiled (and therefore if dropped will not cause a gloopy mess on the floor for you to clean up).

Now let them cool in a bowl of water to avoid any dangerous accidents.

Once they have fully cooled it is time for the main event – painting and dyeing!

If you choose to dye the eggs its pretty simple: submerge the eggs in a cup full of food colouring and water and then leave them overnight to become colourful and vibrant.

On the other hand, you may choose to paint. Painting is more up to you and your toddler’s artistic expression – get creative with easter designs, whether that be eater bunnies, chicks or festive designs.

This idea for a fun easter craft session was originally courtesy of Five Minutes for Mom. We love it for its simplicity. The painting part is also a great way for your toddler to practice their fine motor skills.

Easter themed painted spoons

These are cute and a great piece of decoration. Your toddler can use them for their imaginary cooking shows or stick them into soil in the garden to make it a little more vibrant.

Like most painting activities, this will allow your toddler to practice their fine motor skills and control of their hands. At the same time, stimulate their minds and inner creativity.

Feel free to show your child some easy easter themed designs that your toddler might enjoy painting and get stuck in there! If your toddler might actually use the spoon and pretend to eat from the spoon be wary of the paint you use and look to children safe or consumable paints and food colourings.

You can also use any other bits and bobs you may have lying around the house from previous crafts – perhaps a pom pom, ribbon or googly eyes.

Another classic for Easter toddler entertainment is the Easter chick.

Cute little Easter chicks are bright, fluffy, yellow and something all toddlers will be drawn to.

Easter Chick Wreath

This simple and easy-to-make wreath is perfect for brightening your home or showing your love for easter to all your neighbours when you proudly display it on your front door!

This activity is great to appeal to your toddler’s senses through texture and visuals.

Simply start with some cardboard and cut it into a circular wreath shape.

It is probably best that you either do this bit or supervise your toddler with the scissors.

Then use some spray glue of even better, children safe glue, to then stick on the colourful yellow chicks.

If you do choose to use spray glue, try to make sure that you and your toddler do not inhale it or intercept the flow before it reaches the cardboard.

After you stick all the little chicks on, you are done you are left with a beautiful wreath!

Easter nests

The unmissable treat of the season is so easy to make yet delicious. The no bake recipe is uncomplicated and great for your toddler to aid you with in the kitchen by mixing (and likely licking the spoon).

All you will need is chocolate, a few mini eggs, cornflakes, muffin tin and cupcake cases.

To start with put the cornflakes in a bowl and then melt chocolate carefully so that it does not burn. You could do this in the microwave or on the hob but ensure that you child does not touch the hot bowl or dip their fingers in the melted chocolate before it is a safe temperature.

Once its malleable and not overly hot, mix the chocolate in with the corflakes to create a gooey sweet mix. Dollop these into the cupcake cases lined in the muffin tray and then carefully place them in the fridge to cool within a few hours.

Follow up with a few mini eggs in the middle of each nest and then you are left on the most important step – eating them!

For a full breakdown of the ingredients, head over to Jane’s Patisserie.

This activity will be great to improve your toddler’s motor skills when mixing the ingredients and spooning them into the cases. It might also be a great way to practice their patience as they wait for the yummy goods to cool.

Hopefully, after reading this guide, you will be fully inspired to create and collaborate with your toddler on these great activities and keep them entertained this Easter. Happy crafting!
